• You can’t do it all, no matter how much you want to. So why worry about it? Set an agenda and outline the main things you want to do/see during your trip, planning accordingly. These plans should be outlined with the rest of the group before going away. If you’ve got all the squabbling out of the way before your trip it means less arguing when you are there!
• Always be prepared, planning for the worst case scenario will mean you are adequately covered should anything bad happen during your trip. An EHIC card is a must when travelling in Europe; this will ensure you are seen without a hitch should you have to visit a hospital. Travel Insurance is also a must, some tour providers will factor it into the cost, but others won’t so be sure to make sure you have insurance before you travel.
• Make sure all documentation is up to date! No one wants to turn up to the airport to find their passport is out of date, as previously mentioned be prepared. Check the dates and times of all ticket and any transfer information, you don’t want to turn up for your flight a day late.
• Store your belongings in a safe place. Never hide your passport and money around your room, don’t leave anything to chance. Many hotels have safes behind reception; use these to ensure your possessions are kept safe.
• Be aware of difference of cultures when abroad. What is seen as ok over here might be offensive to those in the country you are visiting. Also be aware of whether you can drink the tap water as you don’t want to spend the whole time you’re there being sick!
