Also known as vehicle insurance
, car insurance or motor insurance is insurance purchased for vehicles in general, and it’s used to provide you protection against losses and liability that could be incurred in an accident.
In most parts the auto insurance is an obligations for all the vehicles, at least the insurance covering liability for injuries and losses done to others.
There are different kind of coverage levels, but basically it can be devided between full coverage or third parties coverage.
Auto Insurance Charges
Here I will try to explain the basic charges for your auto insurance, the first one is the premium charge.
Basis for the premium charges
The premium charge in some parts is determined by the goverment, but in other parts is determined by the insurance company’s, when it’s determined by the insurance company’s, the charge is derived from the calculations of an actuary based on statistical data, in other terms the premium may vary depending on the expected cost of the future claims of each vehicle. The factors that affect this calculations are for example the car characteristics, the selected coverage, the driver and some times also the usage of the car.
Premium Charges Factors
Gender: It’s is considered that women drive less miles than men, and also that are involved in less accidents, so youth surcharges are lower for women than men, but generally adults rates are the same.
Age: Usually the young drivers have higher rates because they don’t have driving record, but insurance premiums tend to become lower when the drivers turn 25. Adults rates are almost standard, and senior drivers some times have retirement discounts.
Marital Status: Some times single drivers have higher rates than married drivers.
There are other variables that can apply to some insurance company’s but the one’s I listed are the one’s that I consider more common.
